Parents of Gender Non-Conforming Children Speak Out For Tolerance

Sample Letters thanking the Nice Companies who pulled support from KRXQ

Using the newly posted dandy live mailto links, I sent this letter off to the companies that pulled out of KRXQ. It took about five minutes using the links. Well worth it.

To (Company name here)

As a concerned parent of a gender-non-conforming child, I wanted to thank you for pullling your ad support from KRXQ radio in response to Ron and Arnie’s comments regarding gender variant children. The family and friends of gender minorities will not tolerate the kind of hatred, and incitement to commit acts of violence which were part of the KRXQ broadcast.

You company acted quickly, and pressured KRXQ to issue, at long last, something that looks like a real apology.
We request that any return to doing business with KRXQ await the proof that this apology is real, and not a self-serving lie designed to lure back sponsors.
Thank you for your time and consideration in this matter,

A more generic letter, for those in a ‘cut and paste’ sort of mood, follows.

To (Company name here)

I wanted to thank you for pullling your ad support from KRXQ radio in response to Ron and Arnie’s comments regarding gender variant children. There is simply no reason to tolerate the kind of hatred, and incitement to commit acts of violence which were part of the KRXQ broadcast.

You company acted quickly, and pressured KRXQ to issue, at long last, something that looks like a real apology.
We request that any return to doing business with KRXQ await the proof that this apology is real, and not a self-serving lie designed to lure back sponsors.

The National Coalition Against Censorship (NCAC), founded in 1974, is an alliance of 50 national non-profit organizations, including literary, artistic, religious, educational, professional, labor, and civil liberties groups. United by a conviction that freedom of thought, inquiry, and expression is a fundamental human right and essential to a healthy democracy, we work to educate our own members and the public at large about the dangers of censorship and how to oppose them. NCAC:

educates the public and policy makers about threats to free expression,
mobilizes them to take action to oppose censorship, and assist in those efforts,
facilitates communications between local activists and national organizations,
devises new educational, advocacy, and media strategies to create a more hospitable environment for free speech and artistic freedom.
We collaborate with coalition partners to produce educational materials and events to meet the needs of their members. We promote grass roots activism by providing assistance, advice, and information to individuals and community groups around the country.

I believe in kindness. If you can help another do so if you can not help them seek to do them no harm! The fact is I have seen the blogs! The Gay blog sites are not much better as far as the name calling! The blogs call Rob and Arnie”idiots” “freaks”and Arnie a “fat bastard” This is verbal abuse! From the same group that is so upset and outraged! I did not hear go out and beat transgender children.I did hear Arnie say he would not let his son wear high heels! And that if he did he may toss his shoe at him! He did not say beat him and he said it in a joking way! All I see is a bunch of hate and the story changes from site to site! I find the blogs to be offensive just as much as the show was to the transgender’s !So is it ok for them to get off track and call names or is it the same? What changes? Freedom of speech I see that some say it is our right if it don’t hurt some one! Well I see the (GLAAD) responds by harming others financially and trying to blacklist them. And name calling,Oh yes and the pre made up letters to the national companies to withdraw advertising contracts with KRXQ a bunch of bull,I did not just have lunch at your restraint! So now they ask us to lie ! To get the companies to withdraw! And the good list and bad list ! What is this for Santa? I don’t see that they care about the kids! I see a group that is out for blood ! And just want to make a example out of this show! NCAC aims to educate and mobilize the community against acts of censorship.

You are free to tell the sponsors to keep spewing hate. Be my guest. You are free. I am free. Words have consequences. Populations that have known injustice, pogrom, holocaust, lynching have a certain sensitivity. Those who aren’t sociopaths can empathize. Certain mentally ill people, poisioned by psychotic hate, don’t get it. They will always have free speech. They may not be able to keep being radio show hosts.

If money is speech, a favorite conservative notion in a nation filled to the brim with psychotic know-nothing right wing hate speech, then our voices, our money, our power to boycott, is speech too.

It’s all fair. You know it is. We have given up nothing to protect these innocents. Nothing at all.

Go to the NARTH site. Go to Throckmorton’s site. It’s all out there.
